I think we made a good decision in taking a zero yesterday. We sat out a heavy rain with strong winds, and our feet needed a day off.
This morning Sequoia and I started hiking at 7:20 am. It was in the 30's, but it was sunny. It took about 30 minutes to get back to the AT. First up was hiking up and over Pond Flats Mountain. It was 1,800 feet to the top. By 10:30 am we had reached Watauga Lake. It's a pretty big lake. We saw several marinas. We hiked within view of the lake for the rest of the day. It was very pretty. While at the Watauga Dam I met Dude, Seventeen, and Fidget. Fidget is from England.
For dinner I had instant mashed potatoes and a package of uncooked Ramen Noddles. We're staying at the Vandeventer Shelter. Sequoia swept the floor of the shelter. Ten feet behind the shelter there is a great view of the lake and valley below. There are eight people and two dogs staying in or near the shelter. There's me, Sequoia, K Fox, Shadow, Lintel, Buzz, Bob, Tin Cup, the dogs are Chobe and Max.
It is supposed to get into the upper 20's overnight. The sleeping bag is going to feel really great.
Jeff, love reading about your adventures. Glad you are safe and enjoying every moment. Amy H.
ReplyDeleteYum, four cheese mashed potatoes and uncooked ramen noodles. I guess that added some crunchy to your noodles. Amazing mileage. Beard's not too gray after all! Sounds like you have had quite the variety of weather. Supposed to be warmer here this week, hope so for you too. You are getting close to hitting 1/4 of the way. What an accomplishment, but don't wish it away. Sounds really beautiful!
