Day 137, miles today - 14.9, total - 1,929.0

August 2, 2013

Speck Pond Shelter to East B Hill Road, Andover.

I woke up this morning at 6:00. There was a light steady rain. We started hiking at 7:30. The rain stopped around 9:00.

We stopped for a short snack break in the parking lot at Grafton Notch. While we were sitting there we saw a thru-hiker named Maggie.. Her mother was dropping her off. I had met her for the first time a few days earlier.

We stopped at the Baldpate Shelter to take a lunch break. Not-A-Bear showed up just as we were getting ready to leave.

After lunch we had a 1,000 ft. up over Baldpate Peak. We had great views from the top. We met a section hiker at the top. Before starting down we could see rain clouds moving in. There were blueberry bushes along side the trail. The three of us stopped for a few minutes to pick and eat the berries.

On the way down it started to rain. The rain drops were almost slush for a few minutes. The rain only lasted for 10-15 minutes.

We got to East B Hill Road at a little before 6:00. We sat at the edge of the road until B-Rocket's mother picked us up at 7:00. We tried, without any luck, to hitch a ride into town. We had hoped to get something to eat and wait for Jamey there in town. During the time that we sat there, only three vehicles came by.

Jamey picked us up, we stopped at a Subway to get a sandwich, and then she drove us to the lake cabin that we had spent the night at last week. Everyone here refers to the cabin as "camp". We are going to zero here tomorrow. It will be nice to rest my knees, they have been a little sore the last few days. We have had a lot of steep ups and downs the past week.
