Day 113, miles today - 21.6, total - 1,617.8

July 8, 2013

Seth Warner Shelter to Goddard Shelter.

B-Rocket and I started hiking this morning at 7:45. Moxie decided to back off on the miles, so she's going to go alone. She's getting off trail within the week to go to a family  reunion. She'll be off trail for one week. I had hiked with Moxie for about one week in all. She was enjoyable to hike with. Dutch was asleep when we left.

We passed a beaver pond. Their dam was very substantial. It's amazing seeing a beaver dam up close.

We stopped at the Congdon Shelter for an early lunch break. We ate and rested for one hour. The trail today passed through mostly dense forest. There wasn't much in the way nice views.

At 3:00 we stopped at Melville Nauheim Shelter. From here we had 8.5 more miles to go. We ate a few snacks and took a break. We heard thunder and the sky looked like rain was moving in. We discussed spending the night here. But, at 4:00 we decided to move on. It was a long day. We got to Goddard Shelter at 8:00 pm. The shelter is in a beautiful setting. We're above 3500 ft elevation. The temperature is noticeably cooler, which will be great for sleeping. We are the only thru-hikers here. There are four section hikers here.
