Day 30, miles today- 25.1, total- 400.9

The plan was to get up at 6 am and be on trail around 7 am. When we woke it was raining with a little lighting. Being above 6,000 feet and on a ridge line hiking was on hold until it cleared up. At 8:30 we were able to start hiking. By 9:00 am the sky was getting dark and soon after it started to rain. By noon there was just a light rain. We didn't have many views because of the weather. We went over Hump Mountain which would have been spectacular during clear skies. We had a nice view of Elk Park NC. That's the valley picture. After 2 pm the weather became quite nice. I hiked all day with Sequoia and Guard. Phys Ed is moving at a slower pace. Sequoia is meeting his wife in Damascus, so he wants to get a couple days ahead of Phys Ed. We got to Mountaineer Shelter at 6:45 pm. It was a long day. There were a few big ups today. The trail is a little easier from here to Damascus Va. We will resupply tomorrow evening in Hampton Tn.

  1. Your second picture looks like the scenery in the "Hobbit" movie! Have you seen any little gnomes around those trees?
